Classes

Get ready for the 2026 growing season! In 2026, I’ll continue collaborating with Denver Urban Gardens to offer educational opportunities focused on vegetable gardening in the Front Range. I’ll share details about upcoming offerings here and in my newsletter—stay tuned! 🌱

Upcoming Classes:

  • Environmental Affinity Group Gathering: Urban Community Food Systems, a panel discussion

    • Join the Environmental Affinity Group for Urban Community Food Systems: How food unites ecology, community, and health in urban landscapes.

    • Thursday, February 26th @ 11am - RSVP here for this free event.

  • Container Gardening

    • Saturday, May 2nd @ 1:30pm

    • Irving Street Library, 7392 Irving Street Westminster, CO 80030 - free and open to the public

    • Designed for small-space growers, this workshop with Denver Urban Gardens teaches how to successfully grow vegetables, herbs, and flowers in pots, raised planters, balconies, and patios. We’ll cover container selection, soil mixes, watering, light requirements, and how to maximize productivity with limited space. Perfect for apartment dwellers, new gardeners, or anyone wanting to grow food without a yard.

Read what others have said after they attended a class, taught by Leah, owner and operator at Backyard Roots!

  • “Leah created a learning experience that gave us a good dose of science as well as very practical ways to improve our soil. I’d go to any future class that Leah offers!”

  • "Leah's class taught this novice backyard gardener how to take care of his garden during the growing season and after. I still reference the handouts she passed out.  It was a great class with practical and simple advice and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to have a productive garden."
